Reyes Joins MTA Board
Mayor James Hahn has appointed First District Councilman Ed Reyes to the Metropolitan Transpor-tation Authority (MTA) Board of Directors. Reyes, who was elected in 2001 and serves as the chair of the council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee, fills a seat vacated by 14th District Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa; he left the panel in September. In a statement, Hahn said Reyes "understands that no big city can truly offer economic opportunity to its residents without providing a great public transportation network." Hahn's role as mayor allows him to sit on the MTA board and fill three more of the 13 slots; his other appointees are Fourth District Councilman Tom LaBonge and 10th District Councilman Martin Ludlow. The MTA oversees more than 73 miles of bus and railroad lines in Los Angeles County.
